(Medaille für den Italienisch-Deutschen Feldzug in Afrika). Constructed of bronze; on a broad loop for suspension; with a correct replacement ribbon; measuring 30.88 mm in diameter; weighing 10.9 grams; in overall very fine condition.
The German-Italian Campaign Medal was originally founded as a ribbon by the Italian Government, but was made into a medal on January 7, 1943.
The Medal was established to recognise the service of Field Marshall Erwin Rommel's Afrika Korps, as well as other German soldiers who served in Africa during the Second World War
There are examples of medals that are composed of war materials; these were minted in the later years of the war as there was a shortage of pure metals.
