History


The German-Italian Campaign Medal was originally founded as a ribbon by the Italian Government, but was made into a medal on January 7, 1943.

The Medal was established to recognise the service of Field Marshall Erwin Rommel's Afrika Korps, as well as other German soldiers who served in Africa during the Second World War

There are examples of medals that are composed of war materials; these were minted in the later years of the war as there was a shortage of pure metals.
