An extremely rare example of this award, in Alpaka by Johann Wagner & Sohn, with name, rank and award date engraved to the obverse: "UNTEROFFIZIER EMIL REHER AM 26.12.1943", measuring 281 mm in diameter, 397 grams, finely toned and extremely fine. Only about 50 honor salvers have ever been awarded. The exact number is unknown. Extremely rare.
The Honour Salver of the Luftwaffe was established on June 15, 1942 by Hermann Göring. It was not awarded to pilots, but to Luftwaffe personnel engaged in ground combat. Those that showed outstanding bravery in the field, but weren't considered eligible for the German Cross in Gold, were awarded the Honour Salver instead. Prerequisites were to already have been awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class and the Luftwaffe Ground Combat Badge.
