A Russian Imperial Order of St. Stanislaus in Gold; 3rd Class by Albert Keibel
Gold with red and green enamels, enamelled centreopieces, weighing 13.7 grams, marked on the loop with a kokoshnik consisting of a pre-1908 left-facing woman's head (wearing the peasant headdress traditionally referred to as a kokoshnik), to her left is the standard number "56" and marked with the assayer's initials "AP" in Cyrillic lettering at the right, hallmarked on the upper arm and maker marked "AK" (Albert Keibel) on the lower arm on the reverse, 41 mm x 44.3 mm, intact enamels, extremely fine.
Originally this was a Polish Order created on May 7, 1765 by King Stanislaus II, to honour the Patron Saint of Poland, St. Stanislas of Krakow (see POL101).
This Order became a Russian Order after the Polish Rebellion of 1830, when Polish forces were suppressed. It was adopted as a Russian Order in 1831.
The version with an eagle was awarded to Non-Christians, and the version with swords was awarded to military personnel.
The obverse features the initials of the Saint.
