A smooth circular medal with a raised edge, constructed of bronzed copper. The obverse features the crowned and intertwined monogram ‘GFC’, surrounded by a wreath of laurel on the left and palm on the right, tied together by a ribbon at the bottom. The reverse features the inscription ‘IM DEUTSCHEN FREIHEITSKAMPFE 1814 UND 1815’ (‘in the German fight for liberation 1814 and 1815’) with a small rosette at the bottom, and surrounded by the circular inscription ‘SCHWARZBURG SONDERSHAUSEN’. On a loop for suspension, on a white ribbon with light blue side stripes.
The War Merit Medal was founded in 1815 by Prince Günther Friedrich Carl I of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. The medal was conferred upon the military personnel of the Schwarzburg contingent who rendered service between 1814 and 1815 in the Napoleonic Wars.
The stamp was designed by Daniel Loos, Berlin. The medal was conferred upon 712 recipients.
