Schwarzburg-Sondershausen
Schwarzburg-Sondershausen was a small principality in today's state of Thuringia, Germany. It existed from 1599 to 1918 and the principality was ruled by the House of Schwarzburg. The capital city was Sonderhausen.
Schwarzburg-Sondershausen was founded, when the Schwarzburg lands were divided, redivided, or consolidated. In the 17 century, Schwarzburg-Sonderhausen became a principality. Both states declared themselves for Prussia in the Seven Weeks’ War and entered the North German Federation and the German Empire. In 1909, after the dead from the rulder of Sonderhausen came the principality under the rule of Rudolstadt, in personal union.
Schwarzburg-Sonderhausen had an area of 862 km² and a population of 89.917 in 1910. In 1919, Schwarzburg-Sonderhausen became a "Free State" and was merged into the new state of Thuringia in the next year.
