Constructed of gilded silver and bronze, affixed to a bronze backplate with a horizontal pinback and period original length of ribbon, unmarked, measuring 42.60 mm (w) x 34.54 mm (h), weighing 17.1 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
A rectangular cut-out clasp, constructed of bronze gilt and silver. The obverse features a golden frame with firefighter helmet, axe, and hose, as well as oak leaves and laurel on the sides. In the centre is the crowned Saxon coat of arms in silver, held by two lions. The reverse features a horizontal pinback. On a ribbon bar, on a green ribbon with seven narrow white stripes.
The Fire Service Decoration was instituted by King Albert on May 11, 1885. It was awarded to fire fighters in recognition of 25 years of long and loyal service within the kingdom of Saxony.
It was also awarded for exceptional achievements within fire fighting services.
The decoration is a clasp, worn on a green and white striped ribbon. It was awarded until 1918.
