The Medal of Honour for Civil Personnel of the Ministry of Defense was established on January 15, 1976. It replaced the Medal of Honour for Labour from the Ministry of War, the Medal of Honour for Civil Personnel of the Navy, and the Medal of Honour for Aeronautics.
It is awarded to the non-military personnel in the Ministry of Defense. The Bronze Medal is awarded for 20 years of service, the Silver Medal is awarded to recipients of the Bronze Medal for 30 years of service, the Gilt Medal is awarded to Bronze Medal and Silver Medal recipients for 35 years of service, and the Gold Medal is awarded to recipients of all other Medals for 40 years of service. From 1976-2004 the Bronze Medal was awarded for 25 years of service.
The medals for the Army, Navy, and Air Army differ in inscription, as well as slightly in engraving. The medal for personnel of the Navy has an anchor embroidered on its ribbon. The medal for the personnel of the Air Army has a wings clasp.
