    History

The Medal for French Fidelity was awarded to those in Alsace and Lorrain region who had been imprisoned or exiled by German authorities because of their allegiance to France.

A contest was held in the Alsace Lorraine region to choose the design of the medal. The winning design was created by A. Schultz.

The obverse inscription translates to “Fidelity,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.”

The Medal is worn with a “FIDELITÉ” clasp. Bronze stars may also worn on the ribbon. Each star represents a year of imprisonment.

There may be additional versions which vary in size or composition.
