Finland, Republic. An Order of the Lion, Knight's Cross, c.1972
(Suomen Leijonan suurristi). Instituted in 1942. In silver with red and white enamels, gilt lion and centrepiece ring, maker marked with the A. Tillander Limited insignia, marked with the National crown, marked "830H" (830 Hopea = Silver), city marked with a boat (Helsinki) and date marked "T7" (1972) on the integral ring, measuring 40.8 mm (w) x 45.5 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, on its original ribbon, intact enamels, extremely fine.
The Order of the Lion of Finland was instituted on September 11, 1942. It was established as an award to recognize multiple types of merit within the actions of military personnel and civilians. Grand Master of the Order is the President of Finland.
The Finnish name of the Order is "Suomen Leijonan ritarikunta".

The Knight differs from the Knight I Class in that the latter is worn with a round rosette.
The Pro Finlandia Medal is a special Decoration and is only conferred upon artists and authors.
The ribbon for all Classes is dark red.
