This medal is conferred upon all members of the Ugandan Army that participated in the Ugandan Bush War, also known as the Luwero War, from 1981 to 1986. Civilians may also be considered for this award.

This medal may also be known as the "Ugandan Medal for Service Against the Dictatorship".
