Morocco
The Kingdom of Morocco is one of the oldest recognized countries in Africa and is located in North West Africa. It is bounded by Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, Algeria and the Western Sahara. The capital is Rabat, the largest city Casablanca. The population is over 35 million in Morocco. The official language is Arabic and Berber. French is often spoken as a second language. The Moroccan national motto is Allah, Al Watan, Al Malik. This translates as God, Homeland, King.
In the 16th century, the Portuguese and Spaniards began to build bases on the Moroccan coast. At the beginning of the 19 century, Morocco was divided into French and Spanish protectorates, with an international zone in Tangier. Morocco gained independence in 1956. Since 1992, Morocco is a constitutional monarchy.
The Moroccan military was founded in 1956 following the independence of France and Spain. It is divided into five parts today: the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Royal Guard, the Royal Gendarmerie.
The Order of Ouissam Hafidien was the highest title and established by Sultan Moulay Hafid in 1910.
