The Strengthening Military Cooperation Medal was instituted in May 25, 1979 by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet. This medal was conferred upon foreigners in the Warsaw Pact Armed Forces in recognition of cooperation and coordination with the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union. Approximately 20,000 were awarded.
The medal is composed of aluminum alloy and red enamel, and measures 32mm. The ring at 12 o'clock is made as part of the medal.
The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "For Strengthening Military Cooperation". The obverse also features the Cyrillic script for the USSR.
