A Soviet Medal for the Defence of Moscow
A Soviet Medal for the Defence of Moscow - Brass, "B/" and "C" scratched on either side of the hammer and sickle insignia on the reverse, 32.3 mm, original ribbon, mounted to a five-sided brass suspension with pinback, light contact, near extremely fine.
This medal was conferred for the Defence of Moscow, with a consideration period of no less than one month, between the dates of October 19, 1941 to January 25, 1942. For Air defence personnel, the consideration period ranged from July 22, 1941 to January 25, 1942. It was awarded to all participants in the defense of Moscow. This medal was awarded more than 1,020,000 times.
The medal is made of brass and measures 32mm. The obverse shows a T-34 Tank facing the left with the statue behind the Cathedral of Vasily Blazheny in the Kremlin.
Variation I has a separately soldered ring at 12 o'clock.
Variation II medals has the ring made with the medal, they were also awarded at a later date.
The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "For the Defense of Moscow". The reverse Russian inscription translates to: "For Our Soviet Motherland".
