History

This Order is conferred upon Navy officers for exceptional leadership and the successful development and conclusion of naval operations.

It is a successor of the USSR Order of Nakhimov (see USR109). The main difference between the USSR version and the early Russian Federation version is the removal of the hammer and sickle emblem.

The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "Admiral Nakhimov".
