The Medal "For Distinction in Protection of the State Borders" was established on March 2, 1994, by Presidential Decree № 442 which was later amended by presidential decree № 19 of January 6, 1999.
This medal is conferred upon members of the Border Guard Service of Russia in recognition of exceptional services in the protection of state borders.
The reverse Russian inscription translates to: "For Distinction in Protection of the State Borders".
