TThe Order of Fiji was instituted by the President of Fiji, Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda, by the Honours and Awards Act on March 8, 1995. The Fiji Honours System was established to promote national unity and to celebrate outstanding contributions made in service of the State.
The Order of Fiji consists of a General and Military version. The General version features a ribbon with two outer red stripes with a white stripe in the middle. The Military version features an additional narrow red strip down the centre white strip and crossed swords.
The Member is awarded to citizens, or other foreigners with an Honorary Award, in recognition of meritorious service to a field of activity or locality.
It has an annual contingent of 10 General and 2 Military Companions. Recipients are entitled to the post-nominal letters MF.
