History

The Medal of Merit was established by King Faisal idn Abdulaziz by Council of Minister Decisions on March 20, 1971.

The Medal is awarded to civilians in 3 Grades in recognition of services provided to the state. All initial appointments are made to the III Class, with the subsequent award of a higher class being made only upon promotion.

The I Class is composed of gold.

The I Class Gold Medal features an Arabic inscription on the obverse which translates to "Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
