History

The Royal Oman Police Meritorious Service Medal (Midal al-Kafa'at al-Sultani), or the Sultan's Meritorious Service Medal, was instituted by Sultan Qaboos in 1975. The Medal is awarded to members of the Royal Oman Police, Fire and Prison Services in recognition of meritorious service. Other service which is of an exceptionally high standard, which benefits the Police, Fire, or Prison Service, and which serves as an example to other personnel may also qualify for the award of the Medal.

The obverse and reverse feature Arabic inscriptions. The reverse inscription translates to "For Competence."
