    The General Service Medal was instituted by Sultan Qaboos bin Said in 1976. It was awarded to Oman military personnel in recognition of general military service during the Dhofar Rebellion, which began in 1962.

    The obverse features an inscription in Arabic, translated as "Sultan Qaboos bin Said" and "Sultan of Oman". The reverse features an inscription in Arabic Script.
