History

The Medal of Honour (Medalat al-Sharif) was originally instituted by King Abdu'llah I in 1951. However, the award was later revised by King Hussein in July 1972. The Silver Medal is conferred upon personnel of the Jordanian Armed Forces in recognition of acts of bravery, self-sacrifice, and other acts of gallantry.

The reverse features an inscription in Arabic, translated as "The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan" and "Determination and Self-Sacrifice".
