The Award for the War Wounded (Sharat al-Jurhi al-Herb) was instituted by King Hussein in December of 1975. The award is presented to Jordanian military personnel of all ranks who were wounded and were killed as a result of military operations.
The Medal may be awarded posthumously to the next of kin. It is thought that the award was also issued retroactively, but more research is needed to confirm.
Numeral devices between "2" and "5" are authorized for attachment on the Medal to denote subsequent wounds incurred while serving in military operations.
