An Egyptian Order of Cultural Merit; Second Class Officer with Case
Four-piece construction, silver gilt with white and blue enamels, gold centre, hallmarked on the ring, on the clip of the suspension and on the reverse of the badge, marked in Arabic on the reverse of the badge, 56.3 mm x 59.5 mm, with a two-piece 14.5 mm x 20.5 mm silver gilt suspension illustrating the Republic of Egypt eagle coat-of-arms above a lamp projecting a flame, large rosette on its original ribbon, intact enamels, scattered gilt wear, extremely fine. Accompanied by a Rosette (embroidered, mounted to a silver and gold-coloured wire ribbon, 9.5 mm, with metal button hole attachment), in their hardshelled case of issue, Republic of Egypt eagle coat-of-arms above the Arabic numeral for "2", along with a torn naming label on the the lid, the given name "M. Gita" with a "Z" and "vich" of the surname still legible, lightly soiled recessed medal bed, case near extremely fine.
The Order of Culture was established by King Ahmad Fouad I in 1932. The Order was conferred in 3 Classes in recognition of achievement or distinguished service in the fields of arts and science, or for intellectual achievement. The Order may also be referred to as the Order of Education. The Order of Culture was replaced by the Order of Arts and Science in 1953 (See EGY111).
