Saxe-Meiningen
The Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen was one of the Ernestine duchies. It was located in southwest in today's state of Thuringia, Germany.
The Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen existed from 1680 to 1918. The capital was Meiningen. The duchy had an area of 2,468 km² and a population of 269,000 in 1905.
In 1825 Saxe-Meiningen got the territories of Hildburghausen and Saalfeld, because the Ernestine territories was reshuffle after the death of the Saxe-Gothaducal line.
The duchy became part of the Weimar Republic after World War I. In 1918, the Duchy became the Free State of Saxony-Meiningen. However, in 1920 merged the state into the new state of Thuringia
