An extremely well preserved 1914-1918 issue Oldenburg Friedrich-August Cross; a cross pattée in blackened metal (magnetic); the obverse inscribed “FA” for “Friedrich August” in the centre, with a Royal Crown on the top arm of the cross and “1914” on the bottom arm of the cross, with a laurel wreath in-between the arms of the cross; vertical pinback with a functional hinge/catch assembly; unmarked; measuring 45.37 mm (w) x 45.56 mm (h); weighing 23.9 grams; in overall near mint condition.
The Friedrich August Cross was founded by Grand Duke Friedrich August on September 24, 1914, and it was conferred upon citizens of the Grand Duchy who rendered distinguished civil and military service during the First World War.
The I Class Cross was conferred upon recipients who had previously received the II Class Cross.
