A circular medal constructed of silver. The obverse bears the bust of Prince Regent George encompassed by the inscription "GEORG PRINZ REGENT". The reverse bears the inscription "WATERLOO JUN XVIII" topped with a shield and flagstaffs, encompassed partially by an open ended laurel wreath tied with a bow at the bottom, and encompassed at the top with the inscription "HANNOVERSCHER TAPFERKEIT" (Hanoverian bravery). The edge of the medal is inscribed with the name, rank and regiment of the recipient.
The Waterloo Medal was established on December 1817 by Prince Regent George, later King George IV of Great Britain and Hannover, in the name of his father, King George III of Great Britain and Hanover. The medal was conferred upon all soldiers who participated in the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815.
The name, rank, and regiment of the recipient were engraved on the edge of medal. The stamp was produced by William Wyon, London.
