The Medal was founded by Wilhelm II and was awarded to all Germans, male and female, who had demonstrated loyalty and perseverance while rendering service in Far Eastern military operations.
The Bronze Medals were awarded to Germans who participated in active combat.
The Silver Medals were awarded to Germans who participated in non-combat activities associated with the preparation of German forces, and the shipment of supplies to the Far East.
The Silver Medal reverse inscription translates to "For the service during an expedition to China".
The only official manufacturer of the medal was Mayer & Wilhelm from Stuttgart, but there are also versions of the medal made by private manufacturer
The medal design was made by Walter Schott, but the design itself was Wilhlem Il's idea.
