This is a fine quality NSFK (Nationalsozialistischer Flieger Korps/National Socialist Flyer's Corps) Glider Pilot Badge; four-piece construction; manufactured of silvered die-forged magnetic iron and white enamels; functional vertical pinback; marked “Eigentum des Nationalsozialistische Fliegerkorps (Property of the National Socialist Flyer Corps), also marked “Ges. Gesch. 29240” (Protected by Law, likely with patent number), and numbered “156” on reverse; measuring 46x44.5mm; weighing 22.2 grams; restoration evident on the lower gull’s right wing but otherwise extremely fine condition.
The Badge was founded by General Friedrich Christiansen on January 26th, 1942, and was conferred upon individuals who had achieved a 2nd Class Glider Pilot certificate.
Recipients also had to complete an endurance flight, which lasted a minimum of five hours and returned successfully to the point of origin, or reach an altitude of at least 3300 feet three times during the course of a single flight.
These Badges were awarded to members of the National Socialist Flyers Corps (Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps or NSFK) and to non-members who successfully performed the requirements.
