Constructed of silvered bronze and black, white, and red enamels; horizontal pinback (missing the catch); marked “RZM M1/77” for Förster & Barth, Pforzheim on the reverse; measuring 22mm in diameter; in overall good condition.
This badge was founded by the Reich Youth Leader, Baldur von Schirach, to foster competition among the Hitler Youth, and to award members for demonstrating proficiency in shooting skills with a .22 calibre small-bore rifle.
To be eligible for the badge, the boys had to be at least 16 years old and be capable of attaining a specific amount of points in a series of shooting competitions.
The Shooting Badge was awarded for successfully shooting five shots in the supported prone position, the unsupported prone position, and the kneeling position. The boys had to accumulate 25 points in the supported prone position and 20 points in the unsupported prone position.
