Constructed of silvered machine embroidery in the shape of an upward pointing arrow with a broad ring at the base, inscribed “Für Leistungen der HJ” (German - For proficiency in the HJ), with a mobile swastika centrally oriented between the ring; embroidered onto a black rayon patch; the reverse with an RZM/HJ tag, numbered “No 074113” and stamped “134” in blue ink; measuring 75x117mm; in absolutely mint condition.
This badge was founded by Balder von Schirach, the Reich Youth Leader, to reward members of the Hitler Youth for demonstrating proficiency in physical fitness and political knowledge. The recipients were chosen and approved by the Reich Youth Leader.
Each class of badge was further divided into an associated grade of proficiency, A, B, or C. The reverse of the badge was infrequently stamped with the grade of proficiency.
The obverse inscription translates to "For Proficiency in the HJ", and the reverse of each badge is numbered.
The Silver Badge was awarded to 17 or older Hitler Youth members for passing the political and physical fitness tests.
