History

The SS Service Overcoat or “SS-Dienstmantel” was introduced in 1934 and was manufactured in cloth for Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Enlisted Men (EMs), and in high-quality cotton twill or gabardine wool for Officers.

The front of the double-breasted coat features two rows of six silver buttons, and two slanted slash pockets with flaps. The collar is piped according to the rank of the wearer: silver cord for Officers, and black and silver cord for NCO/EMs.

Senior Officers with the rank of SS-Oberführer and higher were allowed to wear overcoats with silver/grey lapels, silver/grey wool piping down the front opening, and aluminium piping on the collar.

The overcoats were generally lined with black cotton and feature white RZM and manufacturer markings.

The coat was worn with shoulder boards, collar tabs, a sleeve chevron, a red armband, and a cuff title.
