Dagger and sword accoutrements were used to hang and suspend the edged weapons from, or in some cases to decorate them.
Just like the weapons themselves, the designs and quality of the accoutrements was eventually controlled by the RZM (Reichszeugmeisterei = national quartermaster’s office).
Leather parts of accoutrements used by the SS were generally black.
A teardrop-shaped leather hanger was used for the suspension of the sword, very similar in design to the one used with the M36 Chained Dagger. The hanger was attached on the inside of the uniform through a slit under the left pocket to a belt or a shoulder sling worn under the tunic. At the top of the hanging device is a leather belt loop attached to the leather “teardrop” part by means of a rectangular or D-shaped metal ring. The “teardrop” part features a snap clip device, or in rarer cases a closed box clip, to which the dagger chain’s snap clip was attached.
Variations in design can be found.
