Dagger and sword accoutrements were used to hang and suspend the edged weapons from, or in some cases to decorate them.
Just like the weapons themselves, the designs and quality of the accoutrements was eventually controlled by the RZM (Reichszeugmeisterei = national quartermaster’s office).
Leather parts of accoutrements used by the SS were generally black.
Since the M36 Chained Dagger was already produced with an integral suspension device, the chain, it was generally enough to attach a leather belt loop to the chain’s snap clip if worn suspended from the outside of the uniform.
However, the dagger could also be worn attached on the inside of the uniform through a slit under the left pocket, to a belt or a shoulder sling worn under the tunic, with the help of a leather suspension device in the shape of a teardrop. At the top of the device is a leather belt loop attached to the leather “teardrop” by means of a rectangular or D-shaped metal ring. The “teardrop” part features a snap clip device, or in rarer cases a closed box clip, to which the dagger chain’s snap clip was attached.
