    History

Sleeve Grade Insignia were introduced on August 22, 1942 for all officer ranks from Unteroffizier to Generalfeldmarschall. They were worn on the upper left arm on camouflage clothing and other uniform pieces that didn’t feature shoulder boards or collar tabs.

The Generalfeldmarschall insignia shows a pair of yellow oak leaves and acorns above a yellow field with two crossed marshall’s staffs, on a black backing.
