The Royal Ulster Constabulary Service Medal was established by Queen Elizabeth II in 1982 and awarded to members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary and the Royal Ulster Constabulary Reserve for 18 months of continuous service since January 7, 1971. The Medal was immediately issued to the recipient upon the award of a gallantry decoration or Queen's commendation. Service impeded by death or injury incurred while on active duty also qualifies for the award. The Medal ceased to be awarded in 2001 when the Royal Ulster Constabulary was replaced by the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
