History

The Royal Observer Corps Medal was instituted by King George VI on January 31, 1950, but not awarded until 1953. The Silver Medal was issued to part-time Officers and observers of the Royal Observer Corps for 12 years of satisfactory service, or to full-time members for 24 years of service. The Medal was awarded until 1995 when the Royal Observer Corps was stood down.

Clasps that feature a superimposed winged crown may be awarded to denote an additional 12 years of service. A silver rosette may be worn on the ribbon when the ribbon was worn alone.

A King George VI version of the Medal was designed but never struck. There are 2 Queen Elizabeth versions of the Medal.
