The Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was instituted in 1908. The Silver Medal was awarded to Petty Officers and ratings of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in recognition of 12 years of efficient service. Service during wartime counted as double. The award was extended to Colonial Navies during the Second World War. The Medal was superseded by the Royal Naval Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
Clasps were awarded to denote an additional 12 years of service.
There are multiple versions of the Medal which differ by the obverse effigy of the reigning monarch.
