History

The Imperial British East Africa Company Medal was established in 1890 during the Company's short lifetime (1888-1895). It was awarded to Company troops in recognition of bravery in combat, although it is believed to have been awarded in recognition of campaign service following the demise of the company in 1985.

There is no official record from the Company outlining the exact number of awarded medals, although estimates place the number around 29.

The Arabic inscription on the obverse translates to "The Reward of Bravery."

The Silver Medal features an engraving of the recipient's name, however, it is unknown if the engraving is on the rim or the reverse.
