History


The Iraq Reconstruction Service Medal was instituted by Queen Victoria in January 2007. The Medal was awarded to British, Commonwealth, and foreign members of the armed forces and civilian personnel who were involved in Iraq's the reconstruction and transition to democracy and who were not eligible for the Iraq (Military) Medal. The award recognized 40 days of continuous service in Iraq since March 19, 2003, or 40 days of aggregated service of 48 hours each over a period of a year. Service cut short by death, illness, or disability inflicted whilst on duty, or service recognized by another Britsh award, excluding the Iraq Medal, was also qualifying for the award of the Medal. The Medal was discontinued in July 2013.

The Medal features a depiction of a cuneiform tablet that translates to "Land Bringing Forth Life" on the reverse.
