Sweden, Kingdom. A Royal Pro Patria Medal for Fidelity and Diligence 1918, II Class Silver Grade
Gustav V (1907-1950). In silver, dated "1918", engraved in running script "Ludvig Hansbon 1918." and marked "SILVER" on the edge, engraver marked "A. LINDBERG" on the obverse, measuring 41.2 mm (w) x 61 mm (h) inclusive of its crown suspension, semi-dark patina, original full-length wide ribbon, extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, maker marked "C.F. CARLMAN STOCKHOLM" on the white satin inside lid, recessed maroon felt medal bed, wear evident on the exterior, fraying of the lining overlying the hinged area, case near fine.
This Medal is conferred upon individuals who have rendered long service to the same employer or rendered long service to a family.
The obverse design of the medal consists of the portrait of the reining monarch, and in Swedish around his head, his name and title; because of this there is many variations of this medal.
The reverse design of the medal is very similar to the Royal Pro Patria Medal for Civic Merit although the two medals vary in inscription that is encircled by a laurel wreath.
When conferred upon women, this Medal is worn on a bow ribbon.
The 2nd Size Silver Medal is conferred upon individuals who have rendered at least 15 years of service.
