The Cross for Four Day Marches was established by the Royal Dutch League for Physical Education (Koninklijke Nederlandsche Bond Voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding) in 1909. This League was previously known as the Dutch League for Physical Education (Nederlandsche Bond voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding) until 1959.
It is awarded to Dutch civilians and military personnel who successfully complete all four days of marching in the annual event and is permitted for wear on military uniforms.
There are two models of the decoration that reflect the name change of the governing association. The first features the obverse inscription “NBVLO,” while the second features the obverse inscription “KNBLO.”
The Silver Cross (without crown) is awarded for the completion of ... five marches, and the Silver Cross (with crown) for the completion of six marches. The Silver Cross (with crown) is awarded with a “7,” “8,” or “9” clasp for the completion of seven, eight, and nine marches, respectively. From 1911-1977 these number clasps were made of silver, but they are currently made of white metal and enamel.
There may be additional versions of the Silver Cross that differ in size and composition.
