History

The field-grey raincoat was first introduced in 1938 and was available for purchase by Officers and senior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs).

Many junior Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers who could not afford to purchase the field-grey leather greatcoat wore the raincoat instead because it had a leather-like appearance.

Only shoulder boards were officially sanctioned for wear with the raincoat.
