History

The Air Defence Honour Badge was founded by Adolf Hitler on January 30, 1936. The Badge was established in two classes and was conferred upon members of the National Air Raid Protection League (Reichsluftschutzbund), the Security and Assistance Service (Sicherheits und Hilfsdienst), the Factory Protection Police (Werkschutz), and the Order Police (Ordnungspolizei) who participated in the protection and defence of the German population during air raids.

The decoration was awarded to both men and women.

The I Class Cross was conferred for especially exceptional service, while the II Class was awarded for meritorious and honourable service.
