Physical Description and Item Details

A semi-cut-out rectangular clasp with a raised smooth edge, constructed of silver and silver gilt. The clasp is in silver and features a golden Saxon coat of arms with a golden crown on top. To the left is a hose, to the right a firefighter helmet above two crossed axes. These items are gilded as well. The reverse features a horizontal pinback and a manufacturer’s plaque with the signature ‘L CHR LAUER NÜRNBERG’. On a ribbon bar, the ribbon is green with white side stripes.

History

The Fire Service Decoration was instituted by Duke Carl Eduard of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha on July 19, 1909. It was awarded to especially outstanding performances while fighting fire, for loyal and meritorious service as a firefighter for at least 25 years, or for outstanding merit in the fire extinguishing profession.

The decoration was worn on the left breast below the ribbon bar.
