A smooth circular medal with a raised border, constructed of bronze. The obverse features the doubled and mirrored monogram ‘E’, topped by a crown. The reverse features a laurel wreath tied by four ribbons, with the date ‘1849’ in the centre. On a loop for suspension, on a dark green ribbon with narrow white side stripes.
The Campaign Medal for 1849 was founded by Duke Ernst I on April 17, 1874. The medal was conferred upon all military personnel who participated in the Danish-German War and rendered exceptional service during critical events such as the storming of Dybbøl Hill on April 13, 1849.
The medal was awarded to officers, non-commissioned officers, military doctors, and enlisted ranks of the Altenburger contingent.
