A gilt silver Maltese cross patté with green and red enamel wreath between the arms, obverse centre bears a shield with three arrows pointing outwards from the corners, encompassed by blue enamel and gilt inscription “FÜR KUNST UND WISSENSCHAFT” (FOR ART AND SCIENCE), the reverse bears a crowned cipher “G” for Georg, Prince of Schaumberg-Lippe, on a crown suspension with a red ribbon with yellow stripes, measuring 40.60 mm (w) x 40.30 mm (h), very fine.
The Order of Arts and Sciences was established by Prince Georg of Schaumburg-Lippe and was conferred in recognition of outstanding achievements in the areas of arts and science.

The crosses were originally produced by Carl Büsch, but as of 1914, C.F. Zimmermann became the primary producer.
