An ovular medal constructed of bronze. The obverse bears the bust of Prince Regent Luitpold encompassed by the inscription "LUITPOLD PRINZ-REGENT VON BAYERN". The reverse bears the inscription "AM 70 JAHRESTAG MEINES DIENST-ANTRITTES DER BAYER. ARMEE GEWIDMET XII III MCMV". On a loop for suspension, with a red ribbon with green stripes.
The Bavarian Army Jubilee Medal was established by Prince Regent Luitpold on March 12, 1905. The medal was instituted to commemorate the 70th anniversary of his joining the army.
The medal was awarded to all active Officers and soldiers, Officers of the reserve army and holders of the Gold and Silver Military Merit Medals. In 1911/1912, the decoration was expanded to include Bavarian nationals serving outside of the Bavarian armed forces. Around 22,000 medals were struck at the Bavarian Mint.
