An oval medal constructed of bronze gilt and enamels. The obverse centre bears the intertwined initials of "F" for Friedrich in red enamel and "L" for Louise. It is surrounded by a border of leaves and flowers bearing the dates "1856", "1906", and "20.9" (20 September). The reverse is plain. Topped with a crown and on a loop for suspension. On a red ribbon with yellow stripes.
The Wedding Commemorative Decoration was founded on September 20, 1906 by Grand Duke Friedrich I. It was established to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary with Grand Duchess Louise. The decoration was awarded in a variety of forms to members of the Duke's family and royal individuals who attended the celebration.
The decoration was awarded in gold and in silver.
The 50 Year Wedding Anniversary Commemorative Decoration with Diamonds was likely only worn by the Grand Duchess Louise.
