This Medal is awarded for honourable service in the French judicial system. The Bronze Medal is awarded for 10 years of service, and the Silver Medal and Gold Medal may be awarded to recipients of the previous grade after and additional five years of service. The Medal may also be awarded in absence of service requirements for an act of courage and devotion, injury, or death in the line of duty.
The annual contingent is limited to 200 Bronze Medals, 100 Silver Medals, and 50 Gold Medal.
