History
The Imperial Order of the Three Golden Fleeces was created by Napoleon on August 15, 1809. It was a military order that was meant to symbolize the union of Austria, Spain and France, although it was never actually awarded.
The Order was supposed to have three grades: Knight, Grand Knight and Commander.
A number of designs were created, most notably by Coudray and Martin-Guilaume Biennais, but none were produced. There are later reproductions of the award that were created based on these sketches.
The Order was officially dissolved and absorbed into the Order of the Legion of Honour on September 27, 1813.
